    Default Blakey !

So not long been back from the hospital, sigh...

blake's been poorly again, it's genuinely never ending..... since Christmas he's never been "right" constantly snotty nose, temperatures, sore throats etc... Well Monday, his neck was REALLLY swollen.... but it went down and i couldn't get into the docs.... Kathp (FANTASTIC LADT BTW) put my mind at ease and he seemed to calm down, still really lethargic and not himself but ok. YEsterday his glands were very big again, again couldn't get into the GP....... thought after 2 days they'd HAVE to go down....

Today... they ARE HUGE..... i took him to a walk in centre, they gave me calpol but said that they needed me to see a doctor, SO i in the end had to take him to A and E as i couldn't see a doctor any other way.

They checked him out and apart from his glands they seemed happy said it seemed viral.

Then he was checked over by a Paediatric nurse who then decided she wasn't happy.... so we had to go to the childrens dept of A and E.... he was then prodded again by another nurse who said she wanted him to be seen by a doctor. ....

They said that in himself he seemed ok, bit of a temp, runny nose, throat red but not too bad, tonsils enlarged but not worrying, ears pink and fine BUT the size of his glands were worrying them and that he'd not really been "well" since around Christmas.

So another nurse and Doctor in and i am taken to a ward given a room, numbing cream is put on blakes hands, i have to put pads in his nappy to collect pee and off they go. At this point i was panicking thinking why all of this for a virus.

Then ANOTHER doctor comes in and examines Blakes neck, under his arms and his groins and talks to another doctor that he'd asked to come in too and they start talking about Lymphoma.... when no one is telling you anything and you hear in general chat Lymphoma.... well lets just say i almost had a poo!!!

He goes on to explain that he'd never seen Glands that big in a child before... went onto say that they'd ruled out Mumps and some other things with big names.... but he needed the other doctor to rule out the lymphoma :S

They said his lymph (i think... i was kind of half paying attention half panicking) glands/nodes are squishy, extremely large but they have nice give and they are where they should be..... there felt like no pus or excessive fluid in them, and because they were so squishy he'd rule out Lymphoma.... i just cried and said so what now. His armpits were fine, but his groin glands were up too.

He said in his opinion it was being caused by some unknown unconcerning virus.... that if i wanted to stay at the hospital to get bloods taken, i could, he'd have no problem at all with it, BUT, in his opinion it would show up a virus, and the outcome would be the same... calpol, plenty of fluids and nothing more.
He asked his colleague the other doctor to give his opinion, and he felt and prodded and said he felt more glands that were "up" under Blakes jaw line... to which they both had a feel... he said they were satelite glands of the lymphs and the saliva glands or something.... don't ask me what else they were.. i don't know.. anyways.... his opinion was the same.

I decided to take Blake home, it was 4pm, we'd been there for hours, he was hungry, thirsty, tired and quite frankly so was i.

I have to take him back on Wednesday (the date of my scan.. luckily at the same hospital :) ) where he's going to be reviewed in clinic by the consultant and if need be a specialist, but the doctor seemed confident that he would be ok by then.

    Sigh

i've never been so panicky in my whole life, and to make it worse, when the first doc mentioned lymphoma, i googled on my phone... i knew what it was but i was thinking maybe i'm thinking it's something totally worse than what it is, then i saw it online and freaked out...

My poor little boy seems fine.... he's sat eating quavers next to me watching tv and just keeps hugging me.....

    I need a hug!

Virtual isn't the same as real but it's the best I can do.

So sorry with everything that you've had to deal with, I'm glad that they could rule out lymphoma. I really hope that he starts to feel better and that when they check him out on Wednesday that they can say for sure that his glands are getting better. Good luck, and keep us updated.

Hey girly....sorry I didn't get back to you on FB the other night....I've been super busy! I'm sorry to hear that he's doing so poorly....but I'm glad you got him in to see the doc. I honestly have no idea what in the world it could be, but I can't believe that they would throw out the word lymphoma without actually running any tests on him....WTF?! Hopefully it is just something viral that needs to run it's course. I hope things clear up soon!!

    Thankyou girls...!!

Tracie the worst part was he was talking to the other doctor when he said it they were both in front of me so it wasn't out of my earshot thye were telling me and each other what they were feeling and seeing etc..... so the thing i think was freaking me out was WHY are they talking about that and ruling that out before even telling me it had even been an option...

Now im home and calmer and thinking logically.... they were probably just speaking out loud while prodding him you know?!?! BUT the fact that it had been in their minds did spook me a lot, im not sure im going to settle until these bloody glands have gone down now!!

What a horrible ordeal!! I'd have gone crazy! The docs seem really thorough, though, so it sounds like you can trust them. Poor little Blake... Hope he gets better soon!
