    Default Doesn't eat much.

I'm not used to kids who don't eat much. Dan has always been a really good eater, he would go through phases when he eats less but would still eat enough to not make me worry.

Well Josh doesn't eat anywhere near as much as Dan. Yesterday all he had all day was bowl of ceral, quarter of a ham sandwich and a couple of bites of yorkshire pudding.

Today he has had bowl of cereal, one slice of garlic bread and about 3 spoon fulls of scrambled eggs. (and three starburst sweets).

He's been the same for about 3 months.... he used to eat fairly well especially in the mornings but has gradually cut it down to almost nothing.

I know that before Christmas he weighed 2stone 3lbs (31lbs) and he still weighs exactly the same. He's got taller cos he has out grown his 18-24 month clothes and is now in 2-3yrs but he hasn't gained a single pound. He has to wear a belt with most things cos his jeans are too big on the waist.

He's still full of energy and sleeps about 10 hours on a night and naps around an hour maybe 3-4 days a week.

Do you think its just a phase? Should I be worried? I never got a letter for his 2yr check up so he never had one.

Tom's diet today sounds identical to Joshie's - he's had a boiled egg, 1 slice of garlic bread and 3 spoonfuls of cereal!

Back to Josh though - he's a healthy little boy, I really don't think you've got anything to worry about. He has plenty of energy, he developing normally, he's a good height and doesn't look too skinny or poorly at all. He is quite petite, but he's all in proportion - I think he's just got a small appetite. Adults are the same; some eat loads and you can't fill them (Ryan) and others pick at a few morsals a day (my sister), but are still healthy!

Do you offer him healthy regular snacks, i.e. fruit, yogurt etc? Some kids need to eat little and often, Tom does. I know some parents take the stance of 'If you don't eat your dinner, you get nothing else', but that wouldn't work for Tom. He likes to eat a few mouthfuls every few hours and this just keeps his metabolism going. He goes banzai if you give him a huge plate of food and he won't even try it. If I give him a small portion at meal time and regular healthy snacks, he eats much better, although still not what I think is enough! Kids are a constant worry - Hollie NEVER stops asking for food, seriously. I think she has worms or something, and although she's lovely and slim at the moment, I am worried she's going to end up overweight if she keeps eating like she is at the minute... as parents, we are never satisfied are we! But honestly, I think Josh is fine, so try not to worry. x

Tom and Josh sound like George he eats little and often and has thrown tantrums if he gets a big plateful, some of it with George is boredom though too. I just give a portion the same size as Alex,he is as you know always full of energy even when he has gone through a day on bowl of cereal and small bowl of soup. I would say he is fine as Kath said he is full of energy and healthy don't worry, just maybe try him eating little and often instead of 3 meals a day,but his dinners keep them dead small as that helps too

Wyatt's the same way, some days I wonder how he even survives by eating so little. Today SO far all he's eatten is 1 scambled egg with cheese and a half of a powdered doughnut, and it's 6:15pm here, he totally skipped lunch, and I'm hoping he'll at least eat half of his dinner, which if he has it his way, he'll just throw it to the floor and scream to get down and play OR he'll get mad when I try to eat myself, very aggravating to have your little one not want to eat. My dr told me as long as they're not losing weight and continue playing at a normal rate that he's probably ok, maybe ask your dr if Josh can have a vitamin of some sort to make up for the not eating issue!?

Jordan and Aaron are the same way, we found out this weekend Aaron is 14 pounds under weight by their charts. One of the docs told us not to worry about it as long as he is eating something..

He does actually struggle with pooping and gets constipated a LOT. He probably goes 2-3 times a week and when he does it is usually huge (at least adult size lol) and very hard. He gets about half a cup of juice each day to try and keep him more regular but that doesn't seem to work.

How much does he drink fluid wise Jac my niece is hugely food fussy but she also drinks hardly anything compared to mine and only goes 2-3 times week too, wonder if it is metabolic?
If he is getting so bunged his body will stop him feeling hungry, maybe if you deal with that he may eat better as if it huge and dry that doesnt sound right

Yeah I see what you mean. He drinks ok I think. He drinks a good 5-6 cup fulls of water or juice during the day. They are the big 9oz size as well not the little beaker type. I used to worry that he was drinking too mcuh and it was filling him up so he didn't want to eat.

I think when we are back from holiday I might go and see the doctor and talk about his constipation and mention how little he eats. As you said, if he is feel bunged up and uncomfortable it might effect his appetite.
