Default "Missed" m/c in the 2nd trimester?

Are missed m/c common once you reach the 2nd trimester? I know they are common in the first....mine was missed, so I went 2 weeks not knowing anything was wrong until I went for my routine checkup around week 10. I was just wondering if they're equally as commong in the 2nd trimester, or if any 2nd tri complications would likely be accompanied with painful symptoms, bleeding, etc.

I told hubby at one point, that I almost wished I'd had bleeding at home with the m/c. As horrible and frightening as that would have been at the time, that would make my personal brain association with m/c be that of an external symptom. Since I didn't have any of that, my brain association with m/c is that everything seems fine until you go to the dr and it's really not ok. That probably sounds absolutely ridiculous. But even now, I do worry about each upcoming dr's appt. I'm going to get a doppler once I get into the 3rd trimester....then I can check on myself whenever I get nervous.

I don't know if they are common, but they do happen. And I think you can use a doppler at home in the second trimester. I will definitely get one if I ever get into a second trimester. I understand what you are saying about having symptoms of m/c. Two out of three of my m/c's were missed. I found out when they did an u/s and there was no hb. So I'm sure I will be anxious every time I go to the doctor with a future pregnancy.

I'm glad you understand what I was saying, babyB. When I told DH that, he looked at me like I was crazy, like, "Why would you have WANTED to bleed?" But, you know, while statistics can tell you whatever they want, YOUR personal experience is what shapes your comfort zone and your anxiety zone. Since my missed m/c made me say to myself, "I thought everything was just fine and it wasn't." then even today when I sit here at work, I'm thinking, "I THINK everything is fine, but last time I had no indication, so it might not be and I won't know until I go to the dr in a month." I'm not normally pessimistic, but the m/c (as I'm sure you're familiar) has really shattered my relaxation and comfort zone with being pregnant.

Sorry for the Debbie Downer today. It's kind of a bad day at work and you know, your mind automatically wanders to negative thoughts when you're surrounded by negativity! hehe

Aww hon, I understand completely! The chances are a lot less in the 2nd trimester but then again it is out of hands of understanding any of it!

I got my doppler at about 11-12 weeks. I highly recommend getting it as it will help put you a little more at ease!!!

I am no doc but I believe your chances go way down. You are NOT weird for wishing there were external signs for you. Maybe it would have been easier to understand what was happening....

I rented a dopplar from bellybeats.com. I recommend using them as it was very easy to order and send everything back. They have free shipping and give you the return box so its so easy.

For me though, I had difficulty finding the heartbeat. It scared the crap out of me. It wasn't until I was 15 weeks that I could find it! My Mom finally told me to put it away and stop worrying. Everything is going to be just fine. Tell yourself that several times a day, every day and soon enough you will start to believe it!

Hey! I also had a missed mc with my first pregnancy. I was scared to DEATH that something would go wrong now too, but the more time passes the easier it gets. That doppler won't be needed soon (or at least I came to that conclusion) since the baby started kicking around 16-17 weeks so you can feel everything is ok.

Chances are much less after you are in the 2nd trimester, but it still can happen, anything can happen. Mine was a missed m/c as well & I am always nervous before my appointments because of it, but I try to stay positive & I have faith that everything will be fine. I got a doppler around 16 weeks & I love it. It has helped my nerves a lot.

I think I'm going to research renting a doppler :) That seems to be the nerve-easier for most of you!

I got mine at www.dynamicdoppler.com It's $22 a month. I ordered it online & it was delivered just 3 days later. I wasn't sure what to expect because it's obviously going to be a used doppler since you're just renting it, but it is in perfect condition, looks brand new. You keep it for however long you want it. It comes with gel, instructions, a return box & free return postage. I even called them after I received it to ask a question & the customer service was excellent. I was very impressed. Also it's very easy to use & I never had or have a problem finding the heartbeat.
