Default Birthing Ball to bring on labour?

    Hi Ladies,
Wanted to ask if anybody knew if a birthing/yoga ball could help kick start labour? And if so, whats best to do on it??
I have just been on mine, had a bounce and a roll around and had 2 pretty strong braxton hicks and then lost some more mucus after - if its likely to get things going then I will keep going hehe!!x

I know alot of girls use them to help labour along,I say something is rumbling if you have lost more plug Kat,but be careful as your technically full term yet are you, every momnet little one cooks is a good thing even though I know your in agony.

Oooh I agree with Vick hunnie, be carefull. I don't think a birthing ball will bring on labour unless you are about to go in to labour anyway. I think they are used a lot during labour as the position means the baby's head presses against your cervix and it can help you dilate faster.

Although 37 weeks is classed as full term, not all that many babies arrive naturally by then because they are just not ready. Not all babies lungs are mature at 37 weeks so if your little one wants to cook a little longer then best to let them do that xx

Wow I didn't realize how early you were. I wouldn't want to force anything at your stage but like the ladies said, none of that stuff to naturally induce labor will not work unless your body was ready to go anyway. So if your body is not anywhere near ready, it really isn't going to do anything. I've tried alot of that stuff when I became full term and none of it worked even though I was dialating! At 36 weeks I was 2 cm, at 37 weeks I was 4 cm, and now I am at 38 weeks and 5cm with no sign of labor coming except for the mucus plug loss today.

As far as I know the best you can get out of it is sitting and rocking on it to pur her down in your pelvis and eventhen I think that is only active labor. You can lose mucus everyday hun, it regenerates. She will be here soon enough, jsut relax these next couple weeks.

Dont even BOTHER. It does not work, and really, it can mess up your back. Dont even waste your time. I wasted a ton of time on that stupid ball and she was still late. I did it, I wasted all that time on the ball, it was all in vain

I agree with the other ladies, I would wait and see if you baby decides to come early or not and from what I have read, a birthing ball will not bring on labour - it is used during early labour to help you be comfortable and move your way through contractions and it opens up your cervix and helps get the baby into a good position.

Thanks Ladies, I wasnt sure if they where just an aid in labour for pain relief or if they did anything to encourage it! Im not in a rush to have her here, still have another 4 weeks left but I just have a strong feeling like she will be early, I feel due now which is insane! I think cos I have known I was pregnant for so long (my original due date was 6th may) maybe I just feel im ready in my head hehe! Tho as its my last pregnancy I am happy to have her safe in my tum for a good few weeks and enjoy these 2 kiddies while its jst the two! Midwife rearranged today and is coming weds now so will see how things are then! Either way, I think I need to get oragnised!! xx
