probably stupid, but would you be upset?

We have my stepkids this weekend. DH had made mention earlier (just during a random conversation) that my stepson was trying to save some money so that he could buy himself an iPod. I even joked that I could stick an iPod on my baby registry so that we could get 10% off with my Target coupon. So anyways, today DH took my stepson and Matthew to get their haircut. On the way home, I guess they stopped at a video game store and my stepson bought some sort of USB headset for the Wii so that he can "talk" to opponents while he's playing games (or something like that). I said to DH, "I thought he was saving his money for an iPod?". To which DH replies, "Oh, well I guess he's changed his mind. You know how kids are with money. He decided that he wanted this instead". Okay, whatever.

So my stepdaughter is in the kitchen just now (DH and SS are upstairs) and she says, "I asked Jacob why he spent his money on that stupid headset when he was trying to save for an iPod. And he told me that he didn't buy the headset, dad did". I went online to our checking account and, sure enough, DH had bought the headset with our check card. So she was upset because she had asked DH to take her to Wal-Mart earlier to get some t-shirts and puff paint so that she could make a shirt to wear to the pep rally at school this week and he told her no. But then he went and bought Jacob a headset for one of his video games. And now I'm kinda upset because we are trying to be frugal with our money until my short-term disability comes through. Plus the fact that he just flat-out lied to me about it. He looked me right in the eye and told me that Jacob had bought the headset with his money. Now, not that it was expensive (it was only about $30). But it's just the point that he A) lied and B) wouldn't buy Whitney anything. Whitney got mad at confronted DH about it and he said, "Oh, Jake is going to pay me back....he just doesn't have his money with him right now". Yeah right....if we ever see that $30 again, I would die of a heart attack.

So anyways, I know that this is probably something stupid to get upset over....but would you be upset? I haven't said anything to him about it yet, but it's kinda pissed me off. Any thoughts?

there are lots of time where i buy just one kid something - but i probably wouldn't say no to a pep rally t shirt. And usually the other kids isn't around (like sometimes i let alexa pic a toy at target while noah is with his dad or whatever). The lying is what i would be annoyed over

I'd be a bit miffed. I think he should haven't weaseled out of it and would have been honest with you. I think its poor of him to have gotten his son something but not Whitney. The t-shirt and puff paint wouldn't have been much...and she wanted it for the pep rally. I'm against playing favorites, so I think thats the part the bugs me the most. Maybe you should tell your Dh that honesty is important to you...and that you're more mad at the fact that he couldn't just tell you about it, not that he bought it (even though that part does bug you too).

Sorry you're having a hard time...I don't have any SS or SD or ex's to deal with but my good friend does and it always sounds like chaos & tension.

Yes I would be annoyed, at both A and B. Does your SS have wii live or whatever its called to do this at his house? Or is it only at your house

I'd def say something about it in private... and I also think I would make him get Whitney the pep rally stuff cause I'm a sucker. lol

But the lying- yeah, that is the worst part.

I would be pissed that he lied for sure. He should have just told you he bought it. He was probably trying to as my dh puts it "save himself the nagging"

. I freaking hate when he doesn't tell me things...why does he think I nag!!!!!!!! These men need to grow some balls and tell us the truth.

I would be annoyed that I was lied to. I don't see anything wrong with buying one child and not another when it comes to things that they need but to buy one a treat and not the other and the other child know that, is a little mean. Billy for example needed new trainers a few weeks ago so I bought him a pair, Matthew didn't get anything. A week or so later, Matthew needed a new coat, so he got one and Billy got nothing. But when it comes to treats - it is both of them or nothing. It is only fair.

I would be Angry he lied unless hes thinking yor ss is buying it because he intends to pay your Hubby back??
