    Default After 1 year trying

How many people have went to speak to their docs after a year trying???

In October, it'll be 1 year and I'm debating on whether or not to find a doctor and speak to them about it. I know the top issue will be losing weight, which I'm trying to do (it just doesn't want to come off). I'm just wondering if it's worth it or not. It might be worth it since I have irregular and long cycles I suppose.

What other things do they check?? I know I can conceive, just takes awhile.

I had the same problem. It took us 18 months to conceive this time around. After a year I went to see the doc, he said that because I already have children they will only consider me 'infertile' and start doing tests after 18 months of trying. But I think its def worth a try, especially with these long cycles you've been having. Have they always been this long?

Yes, go talk to the doctor. It may just be an easy fix. May just be a simple hormone imbalance. When trying for B I spoke to mine well before 1 year, just beacuse my yearly exam fell about 6 months after we started trying and I had talk to him the appointment before that about trying. Do you do any kind of charting or temping? I know that helped my doc see that there was an issue.

I would talk to someone if you don't get your BFP by then. Can't hurt, might help. And I agree with Kathy. Charting is a good tool to show them when/if you're ovulating and help pinpoint whether it's a timing issue or something else.

    Good luck!

I would certainly talk to a doc. I know my situation is different but when DH and I decided to start trying, I only waited 6 months before seeing someone. I told them I was trying for 1 year cause they won't look at us otherwise. I had regular cycles but we found out that DH had issues with his sperm. DH was fine one month and in six months he had zero sperm! Three months later, he had sperm and the motility was decent.

Here's the thing...our bodies can change so much month to month, let alone in a year. How much longer are you willing to wait? Sometimes it can take a few months to see a specialist (if needed) so I would get in right away. If you get a BFP, you can always cancel! They will likely test your hormones, possibly monitor your cycle and uterus and maybe get a sample from DH (assuming you see a specialist).

I just know that I am really happy that we saw someone right away. Has sped up the process and gave me peace of mind. Charting would be a really great idea. The more info you can give the doc, the better!

I talked to my doctor- GP - before a year, just saying that we were trying. She was the one who asked me how it was going, and said that I shouldn't waste time going to the fertility center if nothing has happened after a year. I actually waited even longer for that to actually make an appointment with the fertility center, and we dragged our feet on that too.

Because we already had a child together, I just kept thinking it would just happen. And even after all these fertility treatments, there's no logic for why it still hasn't just happened. The only thing my GP did for me was a blood test- I think she tested for thyroid and diabetes, and just a general blood workup.

Because I am over 35, I could have even gone to the fertility clinic earlier, after only six months. You can go and get all the tests done and decide not to do any fertility treatments done right away. I felt much better after we had all our tests done and the results back.

I was actually wondering if you had gone to see anyone about it... I would definately go and talk to your doc about it. He will probably want to do some blood work, etc. himself, before he will refer you to a fertility clinic, and that will take months to get into. There is a reason for your long cycles, and they can at least start by getting that regulated, which may be all that you need. If you could have 10 cycles a year instead of only 5 or 6, that in itself would double your chances without any other intervention.

Yep, I would go in! I didn't wait that long. I wondered if you have pcos as you have some symptoms. Lots of options at the doc for that! Good luck!

Definitely go and see a doctor, it can't help and maybe then can shed some light on your long cycles x
