Default Breast Implants & Breast feeding

Hello everyone, I am currently trying to concieve and I had breast implants put in in 2000. I researched breast feeding before getting the implants but I am now getting worried about having trouble breast feeding. I would like to hear from those of you who have had breast implants and either were able to breast feed or were not able to. Thanks!

    Hi, stepha12.

I do not have implants, but did do some research on this for you. I found this article that has some statistics on the potential problems. It seems that where you had the surgery has an affect, and that chances are good you will not have any problems breast feeding, but any breast surgery increases the risk for problems with lactation.

I had a mastopexy plus implants done 3 years before I became pregnant. Now I can't speak solely for implants, but I do know (from personal experience) that I had a heck of a time BF. I was unable to EBF. We have BF for almost 7 months, and for the first 3 it was very hard. I had to use a nipple shield for latching and the SNS system. I wish you the best of luck, but know that it may not be easy for you. Just keep trying and you may want to invest in an electric pump to help increase supply if any of your ducts were severed.

Tucked up...is basically what I had done (plus implants for shape). It is called a mastopexy. And yes it will certainally affect BF. Most women can't BF at all. In addition to that, the scarring is horrible. While doctors try to make it hardly noticeable. They are some serious scars. Especially is you have paler skin. I only would recommend this procedure done to someone who is done having children, no longers plans on BF and has good enough esteem that scars will not affect them. Here are some links for you to read and consider first....
