    Default Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease

Anyone have any experience with this illness? A teacher where I work has it, and is still AT WORK!!! I can't believe our boss isn't sending her home. Times like these I realize that Korea still needs to develop a lot....

Anyway, I've read that it probably doesn't pose a danger to my unborn baby, but some sights say it is debatable and if exposed, the possibility of congenital defects exists! I know that freaking out over this won't help anything, but I'm kind of upset. I really think she should go home for a week or two. And I'm worried that I may have already been exposed, since she likely got it from one of her students (I teach her students English).

Trying to keep this in perspective....

    Any thoughts?

Im suprised she is still at work! I know the koreans are hard workers (i used to work with koreans) but there has to be an element of safety of others health also. Not so sure i would be too keen to catch it, however, i dont know much about the illness either.
Keep your distance - any illness while pregnancyis worth avoiding in my opinion! xx

I would be really careful and speak to your OB about the risks of contacting the disease at work, especially in a school setting. Things can spread really fast and easily. Take care.

Thanks for the responses. I've got my husband looking into it now, and he'll contact the OB. As far as telling my boss -- well my boss is the one who told me! She wanted to warn me, I guess. Thanks all.

I have worked in daycare settings before were we had a pretty big out break of it!!! The younger kids are more app to get it like between 1-2 years usually!! Its blisters that develop on your hands, feet, and mouth. It looks kind of like cold sores when on your mouth. There tiny little red dots. I was told at my daycare that adults aren't as likely to get it!! There isn't really anyway to treat it either it just has to run its course. I agree she should be home but if she already has the spots on her face, hands, and feet then the contagest part is over!! I would deffinetly call your OB to see what they say!!!
