Thread: how can I tell when I am ovulating

Do I have to purchase a kit to tell when I am ovulating... i have never really tracked my periods.... for the past 2 years I have had off periods.... How can I get myself straight?

Yes, you need a kit to know in advance when you are ovulating. If you chart your temperatures, it will show you when you ovulated and give you a good picture of your cycle. Since you've had some off periods, it can help identify potential problems too. Also, it may help to see an OB/GYN. My periods were seriously off a few years ago. The doctor had me take pills for about a week, and they have been regular ever since.

Dear Elleth, I recently went to a pharmacy here in Greece and asked for an ovulation kit. They told me that they have nothing such as a thing. Do the pharmacy's in the US have these things. I have a friend in NJ that could possibly send it to me. How many times does it work for and how much does it cost? so i could send here the money? Vasilia

If you want to have your friend order them, it will cost a lot less to order them online than to get them from the local drugstore. Typically, you use up to 7 test strips in a month. You start about five days before you think you will ovulate to try and catch it. At my local WalGreens, it costs $15 for a pack of 7. At the store I mentioned, the costs go down depending on how many you buy, but seven strips would be $7.70, roughly 1/2 the price.
