Thread: How Long Did It Take?

Hi everyone,

Just registered today, so my apologies if this question has been asked before (i'm sure it has!).

How long (for all you lucky ladies out there) did it take for you to get pregnant once you'd started trying? I'm particularly asking women who don't have any menstrual problems and had been on the pill for at least a few years.

My hubby and I have just started trying, and I wanted to get an average estimated time.

I cannot answer from experience as I was only on the pill for six months once, and twice for 3 months, but I will answer the best I can.

Your odds of getting pregnant each month when you do not have any problems for you or your spouse are one in four. If you chart and use an ovulation prediction kit, your odds get better at one in three. On average, it takes 4-6 months to conceive. The doctors usually do not consider it to be a problem trying to conceive until a year has gone by.

When you are dealing with being on the pill for a few years, it can take a few months for your body to settle and resynchronize itself and for fertility to return. On average, this takes three months. For some fertility returns as early as the first month, and rarely it can take up to six months. You would just add this time to the time listed above. That means on average, it will take 7-10 months to get pregnant after coming off the pill.

If you start charting and using an OPK, you will know when your fertility returns.

I just joined a few days ago, too.

Me and my husband are on month 2 of trying ( i should know something next week). I was on the pill for 8 years. My OB/GYN said that the pill does not have to "get out of your system" like some people think. She said if that was the case then women would not be able to get preg. while on the pill.

Thanks can hardly wait - since that message i posted in June i've actually found out i'm pregnant. I'm already 8 weeks so like you said i didn't have to wait for the pill to "get out of my system".

I think some woman do take a while to get their cycles back to normal. But i was very very lucky!

Congratulations, it must have been a nice surprise for you to find out you are already pregnant. I came of the pill for a month but nothing happened so I started again. But this month I decided to stop again and now I will just wait and see. I am hoping it takes about 3 months for me to get pregnant but we all know we cant always choose when these things will happen.

Well i got a BFP today going to check again tomorrow but if it is then it took us 3 months from coming off the pill, But this month we did everything properly, taking temperatures and putting a pillow under my bum and keeping my legs up. I was going to start taking prenatel supplements, looks like i will be taking them for a different reason.

Congratulations on your !!!!! False positives are so rare, as long as you checked the test at the right time, you should be pregnant. Woohoo!!! Way to go, Mom!
