    Default Longing for a baby

Hi all, I have been married now for 2 years. My husband and I have talked and decided that in December I will come off of the pill and around April we will start trying. We would have started sooner, but his mom paid for us a trip to Hawaii in April. So, I want to take full advantage of that, but at the same time all I can think about lately is getting pregnant! Also, last month I thought I might have been pregnant, even though I am on the pill, but turns out I am not. I thought I had symptoms though, and I missed a pill last month. But, I had my monthly so I wasn't pregnant. A part of me was hoping I was though. I have definetly been bitten by the pregnancy bug! Plus, my longer sister is now pregnant with her 2nd child, so it makes me want one even more. Does anyone have any advice to help me not go crazy thinking about it all of the time? Or does anyone else have a similiar situation?

Also, good luck to everyone who is TTC right now!
    Christie

    Christie,

I understand your position very well! When we decided to ttc almost 5 years ago, I couldn't wait to get started and it was all I could think about! Sadly, no one told me I might not be like all of my friends and family who came off the pill and POOF get pregnant! It took us 4 years of ttc and we finally gave up and started trying to deal with the reality of not having a baby of our own. We got a mircle though and are now 3 months pg. with #1!!!! I really think all the stress and pressure I put on myself to get pg. was the main factor that kept me from conceiving. So, with that said, when you do start ttc.... take it easy. If you don't have a hobby find one and don't let ttc become your only focus! It really can hurt you! Good luck and I hope you don't have to wait long!

Molly, thanks for the advice and congrats on your pregnancy! Everyone is telling me to not stress out, so that is what I am trying to do but it is hard! I just wish I could stop thinking about it. It is wierd because until about 2 months ago, I never thought about it much. It is like it has hit me all of a sudden. What are the tests like that you have to go through during your pregnancy?
Thanks again for telling me your story and congrats on your future little one!

Well, so far just some blood work, urine tests and a norma pap exam as far as the tests I've had. I know that at my next appointment they will do more of the same and then on the one after that I will get an ultrasound to see the baby! TRUST me... things will go much easier if you don't stress and can get your mind off of ttc. However, I do suggest you making an appointment with your OB/GYN for a conception visit. Let them know you are getting ready to ttc and they will make sure everything is alright and get you on prenatal vitamins that will start giving you folic acid..... my OB recommends starting the vitamins as soon as you know you want to conceive, before you even try! After that visit get busy with anything NOT baby related and keep you mind on other things! Good luck

    Thanks Molly,

I actually just saw my OB/GYN last month for my checkup and we talked about it. I have already been taking folic acid, working out, and staying in good shape. He told me as soon as I am ready to come back in and talk some more. So, I guess I am on the right track in that sense. I have a fear of needles that I definetly need to get over! What worries me too is that I will have to keep working after the baby. My mother in law is about to retire, and will be the caretaker during the day, but I want to be the one at home. That part is upsetting, but I guess at least I don't have to use a stranger or daycare.

    Hi, Christie.

I hear you about thinking about it all the time. Sometimes I wonder if we are just programmed that way. I hope it works out for you to get pregnant quickly come April.

It must be nice to have a MIL who gives you trips to Hawaii and will be there for day care. You never know with day care. The center I was planning on using when I was pregnant got shut down and two people were arrested for child molestation. Very scary.

It is hard to work and have a baby when you'd rather be home with the baby. My DH and I had that conversation, but my salary is larger than his, so if one of us stayed home it would be him. If you are really interested in being home with the baby, there are some options open for working at home. One is running a day care center yourself. There are other home-based businesses you can do too. It may be worth looking into.

    Sending tons if your way!

    Thanks Elleth,

I am in the same situation as you, I make more money. So, it is pretty much a given that I will have to keep working. And yes, I am fortuate to have her as a MIL. Her husband died the weekend we came home from a cruise where we got engaged. That was real tough, and they always traveled. So now, we often take big trips with all of their family. It is nice. Well, I am going to relax and keep my stress to a minimum and try not to put so much thought and pressure into having a baby. Maybe it will happen in Hawaii! Thanks again for your support!
