    Question Size matters!!

    Hi to you all

I have been reading all the posts and decided it was time to join in the fun. Me and my husband are on the path of ttc!! My Q is I am v v overweight (obese) and I know this is not a great start for pregnancy but really do want a family I am healthy in every other way. I was wondering if anyone else out there is in the same position or has managed to become preggy? Everything on the internet seems to say it would be impossible for me to become pregnant if this was so why was I given the contraceptive pill? I also have another problem I came of the pill 2 months ago and have not had a period yet (I never had them while on this pill for 2 years doc said this was normal while taking the mini pill).

    Thanks

    Dreaming of

    Hi K19ely,

First of all - Welcome to

It can sometimes take a while for your body to get back to normal after being on BC especially if your body is at extremes (very thin/very overweight) - i wouldnt worry too much about that. it will settle eventually.

I've got a friend who was in a similar situation to you, so although i can't speak from personal experience, i can tell you what she went through. Its a sad story - but has a happy ending!

Anna was considered Morbidly Obese (I know - lovely clinical terms aren't they) when she decided to ttc. They tried for over 18months - Her doctors kept telling her that she would have difficulty conciveing due to her weight. They were obviously right though...

they told her that she had increased risks of just about everything: “Pregnant obese women are at an increased risk for pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, cesarean delivery and postpartum infection. At the same time, the fetus is at increased risk for neural tube defects, birth trauma, and late fetal death’’

The stress got too much for her and her DH and they seperated...
Because she was newly seperated she decided to do some thing for herself and get into shape... she lost a couple of dress sizes and got to the weight that her doctors had recommended she get to before ttc.

It was at around this time that her and her DH got back together (no it had nothing to do with the weight loss) and after a couple of months tried again.... they now have a beautiful baby boy (well he's nearly 2 now) and there were no health risks to mother or baby as mom was healthy in every way before, during and after her pregnancy.

There's no reason why you cannot get pregnant, its more the risks that come with it. I'm sure you are aware of the physical problems that "obese" (I hate that word) people are supposed to have without adding the physical and mental pressure of a pregnancy on it...

Please forgive me if this post sounds trite, its not supposed to, but even i'm having difficulty with the added physical pressure that pregancy has inflicted on me and i was slim and very fit before i got pregnant... I'd be more worried about what the pregnancy will do to your health and your baby's health as to whether you can or cannot get pregnant...

God i just re-read that and realised how judgmental it sounded - please forgive me for the wording of it - it wasnt meant to sound as awful as it does...

    Hi

It's ok I am glad you could be so honest. I am aware of the problems I may have however I will continue ttc. If people who smoke and take drugs can have a helathy child so can I as it is a very wanted child. Positive thinking.

Good luck with you first hope it all goes well.

Hi, k19ely. to Baby Talk Zone!

I'm in a similar position. I lost a lot of weight and then wound up pregnant, but it was ectopic. Being overweight or underweight can affect your hormones, which can in turn affect your ability to get pregnant, but in no way does it mean that you cannot get pregnant. It does mean it is harder and will likely take more time. I know it is not impossible because I know women who are currently pregnant that are overweight.

It is normal coming off the pill to not regain your fertility right away. It takes an average of 3 months, and 1-6 months is in the standard range. Hopefully your period will return soon. Have you started charting your temperatures yet so you'll have a good idea what is going on with your cycle? Also, be sure and start taking prenatal vitamins if you haven't already started.

    Sending tons of your way!

    Hi,

I have a colleague who is like you but she has a beautiful baby girl.

So I think you can get pregnant. Nothing is impossible! Think you can and you will.

    Hi Kelly
I just wanted to wish you good luck! I would just try to relax and enjoy TTC, and try not to stress out. That is what I keep hearing from everyone, that if you stress too much it may not happen. I have seen so many stories of people who once they stopped thinking about it so much is when it happened! I haven't been pregnant yet, but I am going to TTC soon. I am stopping my pill after this month. So, I guess that is all of the advice I have.
Once again, I wish you the best of luck!
    Keep me posted,
    Christie

    Hi Christie

Yeh thats probably true. I don't know if I know what relaxed is, me and my dh have just bought a business in the hope it would be less stressfull (a shop) it's good fun though and it will suit when a baby does come along. Good luck on your quest ttc it must be an amazing feeling when it;s something you wan't so much. My sister only has to look at her partner and becomes 6month preggers!!!

    Good luck will keep posting.
