My oldest was a year old before he stayed away from home, and my youngest will be too. If it's not absolutely necessary, and it would have to be a reaally good reason...there is no way I'd let my week old stay away from home even if Mother Theresa were his caregiver.

I would say he is way too young, and also because you don't feel comfortable with it are good reasons not to do it. My in-laws took care of my son when first born a bunch for 20 minutes here, half hour there in his first couple months of life. I was mostly in the house, but the idea of sending him somewhere else for the weekend, well he is 3 years old and we still have not done that. I would at 3 years old, with my in-laws, but not earlier. Only recently have we even toyed of the idea of maybe having DH's Mom come and us go away for a weekend while she watches our son.

If you don't want to send him, you don't have to!! That's the way I see it, you're his mom.

I have attachment issues with my children, so they don't spend the night away from me too much. Adrian was probably 2 1/2 before he did, and Jaxon was around 1 1/2 before he did.

The twins are two and not yet.
    Lincon was 3.
    Lachlan was 3.
    I see a pattern.
I personally wouldn't at that young age but I know my BIL (26 years old) and his wife left their 3 day old with my MIL because they needed a break and were so tired. My husband and I were aghast.

Oh there is no way....babies belong with their mamas! I wouldn't even let Noah go to the nursery!

I've never had a problem letting my mom keep my kids overnight. As a matter of fact, she is keeping them tonight because my DH and I are both on call at work. BUT....a week old is WAY too young, even for me. The youngest I have ever left either of my kids overnight was when my son was 8 weeks old.

1 week is really young!! YOU are the babys mother, and you do not have to feel badly about deciding to keep baby at home. You should tell them already when you think you will be comfortable leaving baby, or you may end up dealing with this every week...

Maddy has never been away for a sleepover, and Bas,he's only slept over at my moms house, when I was in hospital. At 1 week,no way, unreasonable for her to even ask.I would tell her that your daughter can do with the one-on-one time with her for a little longer...
