i would try to pick another hospital i'm sorry!
There are so may things i'm worrying about and everyday i read something more about our local hospital that makes me feel worse.
Our family have just relocated to a new state/territory so i'll be having this baby in a different hospital to the one i had my first two children in. This is a little nerve racking as it is, new place, new doctors, new surroundings, etc, etc
Anyway my hubby brings home the newspaper one day just recently and tells me "don't take your eyes off this baby when your in hospital" I'm curious so i ask why, not that i would anyway and he tells me to read the article in the paper. A 5 mth old baby girl who was in childrens ward was molested while her mother left for a while to visit a relative who was also in the hospital.
Next time i read the paper i read they have a golden staf outbreak in the hospital that they reckon they will never get rid of because its source is out in the community. They claim to have it under control though. Meanwhile i have a friend who works in the hospital and he has just taken a week off cause he got the infection. I mean what if my baby contracts the infection!
I read the newspaper again and this time the ambulance service up here are ready to revolt due to a lack of ambulances. They have 3 full time ambulances and have just put on one part time Ambo. The shortage is that bad that they are calling ambos with patients already to detour to other accidents. I had my last baby in 6 min at home so i'm really relying on the ambos to make a speedy arrival when i go into labour. What if i have complications.
Sorry to winge but i was so relaxed with my last two and this time i am really starting to worry. I'm frightened of delivering at home again by myself and i'm frightened to go to the hospital as well. I had more contractions today and i was so frightened i just cried and nearly had a panic attack. I managed to calm down and my contractions stopped again. I don't want to be feeling like this right before i'm due to have this baby. To top it off hubby works most nights now with his second job so i'm frightened he won't be here this time when i go into labour for real.
I just had to get that off my chest. Sorry it was so long. Thanx girls.
I wish i could chose another hospital but unfortunately it's the only hospital we have where we live. And i live 20 min from it as it is. It's ridiculous, as they have one hospital to cater for a huge radius and then we get people flown in from the surrouding islands as well.
All I can say to you is that I will keep you in my prayers. It really sounds like bad management all around. Just be strong and hope for the best.
Have you made friends with anyone nearby who might be able to drive you to the hospital if DH is at work? It might be better for you to make it to the hospital earlier than you need to be there or at least close since there's a shortage of ambulances.
May God protect you and your baby from harm at this hospital.

Wow i dunno but that really doesnt sound too comforting! I would be worried as well! I hope things go ok for you!
Yes i have a few friends that i can contact if need be and i have a few different plans in place depending on what happens. I have an aunt who will come out to watch the kids. Thankyou i think we are going to need all the prayers we can get. Hopefully we are in and out very quickly.
That would be fantastic but i think it costs like $3000 and we just don't have that kind of money unfortunately. I might look a little more into it though, see if its different in the new territory we now live in. And don't you have to go into hospital after a home birth anyway, although i guess doing the delivery here at home would reduce risk of infection.
Glad to hear you have friends and family nearby that you can call. Just keep positive and hope for the best with the hospital, I'm sure they also have some success stories.

I can understand why you are worried. I think having the care that your newborn would recieve place them at a significant lower risk that other adults and/or children in the hospital to infection and access by other people. They usually quarantine wards when an outbreak of anything occurs so infections in other parts of the hospital should not affect you and your baby. I use to work in a hospital and different types of infections break out regularly. I know i would still be worried but i know in the NT you don't have alot of other options. Do you know anyone else who has had a baby recently in NT you could talk to. Can you talk to your Dr about you concerns? Do you have family interstate that you could stay with closer to the birth and have your baby there if you are really that concerned?
