Hello everybody!
Just became a member and looking forward to meeting 'on-line'!
I have a question, is it possible to get pregnant having intercourse on days other than around ovulation days?
I have a consistent (like clorkwork!) cycle of 29 days, had intercourse on the 24th day assuming it was very safe. Had a strong intuition that I got pregnant becoz of that; period was late by one day. AF came on 30th day instead, for only one day. Started with brownish spotting early morning, a bit of red blood for the rest of the day, by evening zero. Two days later slight spotting again of brownish colour. My normal period is around 3 days with very heavy bleeding first and second days, heavy enough to warrant 5 pad changes a day. This time around I didnt have to change more than twice that day.
My doc friend says possible as I had intercourse 5 days before my expected period. But he says a period means no pregnancy; he's not a gyny though and haven't spoken to him about the abnormal period. Any feedback on this ladies? I do feel heavy and tired and need to sleep more often than normal as I am quite an active person.
Should I do a HPT? Or could it just be a false alarm, ie just a once in a lifetime abnormal period and I am just reading into it pregnancy signs? I would love to be pregnant, so am afraid to be so disappointed.
Thanks for your time!

Thanks Lync.
Question do I do HPT now? My one day period (29th day) was last Thursday, will HPT be able to give an accurate reading? Was told I should wait a week after suspected period start day before attempting HPT.
Appreciate your thots.
Wazien,
Home pregnancy tests work by testing for the pregnancy hormone, hCG. The most sensitive tests can tell when the level reaches 20, but most can detect when it reaches 25. The average cycle is 28 days with ovulation at 14 days, and typically an egg can be fertilized for about one day. This means it is roughly 14 days from ovulation until you show as pregnant on a HPT that can detect hCG levels of 25.
Normally I would say yes, a HPT would show positive as you are at the time for the end of your cycle, but with your timing you would have ovulated 10 days later than normal, which means you could show negative on a HPT for those extra 10 days. If you get the more sensitive test, it can tell you about four days earlier.
While there's no harm in taking a test now, a negative result could be a false negative due to your timing.
Thanks Elleth.
So based on your explanation, when would you recommend I take the test?
Is there a possibility of being pregnant even with all the odds against it; after ovulation intercourse and one-day period? I know only a HPT can confirm or deny; but curious enough to know if there is even a remote possibility.
Appreciate you bearing with me on this.
There is definately a possibility. I couldn't tell you what the odds are, but sometimes we ovulate at odd times. It could just be an abnormal period.
I would test twice. First, at 15 days after day 24. If you ovulated on that day, the test will be able to tell then. Since sperm can live for up to five days, the second test to confirm a negative would be five days after that.
Thanks much Elleth! Am gonna keep my fingers crossed, hoping to see that blue line ....
Well good luck with the test
Hi my name is Jody i just read your question and statemant YES you can get pregnant on other days its poss, i was just a bit concern as far as your period and bleed goes are you having ab pains and are you still spotting? period does not mean your not preg.
I have had an experiance of what you have discribed and i dont want to scare you but if you have answered yes to ab pains and still bleed it could be serious an etopic other wise it could be as minor as what they call blood clot before you became pregnant and its the left over blood coming away nothing to worry about i would advise you to go to your GP and get a Preg test and that will answer the questions.
Good luck!!!!![]()
