Default Do you let your kids drink fizzy drinks (cola etc)??

I was chatting to a friend on fb and she mentioned how much her little boy (2 years and 3 months) loves drinking cola. And i was shocked....I would never let Kaja drink such drinks (sprite, cola, pepsi, orangade etc etc). Tasting a sip from someone else is one thing but just giving them a glass or worse a sippy cup of it is just so wrong in my eyes.

I dont even let Elín drink these drinks and she will be 5 in july. I never buy cola/pepsi but occasionally buy a bottle of sprite to have in the fridge as i like it mixed with pure orange juice. If we have it in i will then let Elín have a small glass. But i dont buy her these drinks when we are out or at a reasurant. As for Kaja no way!!!

Eli doesn't have them at all. Only exception being that I let him share my glass of Ginger ale the other day when we were both in the worst of a stomach bug (any fluids he kept down were a win). But other than that, he's never had so much as a sip. Once he's a few years older, I might consider letting him have a bit from our glasses when we are out but for now his 'treat' at restaurants is juice since he normally gets water.

Elíns drink of choice is water...but kaja´s is dilute juice...she hates water lol...im trying to wean her on to water though. I make her dilute VERY weak and sometimes say no when she asks for juice and give her water or milk instead.

Matthew drinks mainly milk and water. He's started to become a juice fan recently, but still only gets maybe one cup a day. DH and I will occasionally let him have sips of our sodas, especially if we're out at a restaurant, but I have never bought him his own soda or given it to him in a sippy cup. I just don't see the point.

My older boys will drink sugar free as a treat or if we are out at a restaurant etc but no the younger two don't have it,Milly doesn't like fizzy. I am not going to lie and say mine drink water all the time as they don't we use sugar free diluting juice and make it weak or they will drink milk or water but prefer something with a wee bit of flavour too, some might gasp I am not purely sticking them to water but to honest I'd rather know they are drinking correctly than avoiding drinking as they don't enjoy water. Bradley will drink water though but he does alot of sport so is use to it,he is also a milk drinker still.

We always have fizzy in the house I have to say,Keith is a big lemonade drinker and I got into diet, caffeine free coke(brown fizzy water)when I was on WW last year,George is a iron bru fan so sometimes gets a diet can at weekends.

I personally wouldn't label it wrong if a parent was doing it unless it was full fat nonsense,I guess we are all guilty of giving our kids stuff every now and then,no one is the perfect parent

Im not saying she is a bad parent...just something that i dont see is worth it for a child who is so young. Her older daughter had to have a filling when she was 4 due to drinking fizzy drinks so i just thought she would be more careful. But she jsut laughed at me and said i was a mean mum :-/

Like i said my kids dont stick to water all the time (Elín does most the time but thats her choice) we drink lots of milk in this house and likeyou said Vicky that dilute juice and if there is a carton on fresh juice in the house it doesnt last too long wither but thats because Elli loves it.

Mine mostly drink sugar free dilute juice so I don't have to worry about it rotting their teeth. I know it contains aspartamine but seriously the amount of aspartamine you need to drink before it causes a problem is loads!

Dave and I do drink sugar free fizzy pops so now and again the kids to have them. But generally its more for novelty and they always get it in a cup and are excited about it. To be honest, Josh is more interested in it than Dan.

I don't really understand why someone would give their kids the full sugar one, there are so many diet alternatives around. And as long as it doesn't have caffeine in it I don't think its any worse than sugar free dilute pop which my kids drink all the time.

I know you weren't saying she was a bad parent of course not(lost in internet translation)like I say everything in moderation or ,ours SOMETIMES have some out well the older two,but it has to be diet mine don't need the sugar hype, although mine are like Elli fresh juice is a big thing too especially cranberry it last 2 seconds in this house. But I don't worry too much as they all eat healthy balanced meals and have good teeth hygiene, must admit it bugs me more to see kids on poor diets of highly processed cr@p than what they drink,as I said I am more worried about them getting enough fluid,I read something recently about how children don't drink anywhere near enough fluids as they should do,will have to try and find it somewhere.

Georges new found love right now though is a hot chocolate at night,I think George is an old man in a 7yr olds body!!!!

To be honest i would rather mine drink regular fizzy drinks rather then suger free....my philosophy is i would rather they drink something that grows on plant then in a plant :-)
