Well at the end of end the day we are all parents and do what we feel is best for our kids. Sure we look at others and they do stuff we wouldn't do with our kids..... but hey.... life would be boring if everyone was the same :o)

Vicky, I think it's almost a whole separate issue with older kids like your big two. As you've said, they are big enough to say they don't care for water and as long as their diets are otherwise varied (not filling up on sugary or artificially sweetened juices and pops to the poin that they aren't eating enough, which I'm sure isn't the case), what matters most is that they're drinking enough.

With my guy, since he's so small, I want him to think that water is the first choice as long as possible. I'm sure that'll change once he's old enough to know what he's missing!

I'm with you on that one Rachel. Even though I am a diet coke drinker myself (when not pregnant), I would never give Matthew diet coke. A little sugar every now and again is not going to hurt anything. I'd rather Matthew drink the natural stuff than the artificial sweeteners which have been linked to kidney failure and other medical issues (which means I'm screwed ).

Ah well, me and mine have been drinking sugar free for years..... we'll probably drop dead of kidney failure but at least we'll have good teeth lol.

Liam will occasionally have a sip of mine if I have it but not very often. He generally has water, milk, and sometimes juice. Just not something I want him to get use to having/asking for.

But regular stuff has as much cr@p in it as diet just sugar as well, mine have it that little I am not going to worry about kidney failure and stuff,I think that is more people who live and die on the stuff than occasional drinkers, mine all partake of sugar free diluting juice but weak and it gets the fluids in. All things change so much nowadays that one time something is good for you and the next time it is bad for you I think the latest one is red meat.

Sure I don't agree with filling your kids up on fizzy everyday but like I say everything in moderation, high days and holidays is fine, just like you wouldn't let your kid live off chocolate or processed food which seems to have swamped the market recently,so I am sure alot of people feed there children "easy" meals full of nonsense if they read what was in it,but it is horses for courses as Jackie says with it all!!!

My younger ones will tend to drink what is put infront of them apart from fizzy as I don't offer them it,but diluting juice yeap I do!!

I think it is completely inappropriate to give a 2 year old soda. I mean, if they can't even drink out of a regular cup, they have NO buisness drinking soda (IMO)...a sip? Sure why not, a glass of the stuff....I personally think its trashy. My friend used to give her toddler soda in a bottle .

Send her this link peaceful parenting: Your Body within 1 Hour of Drinking Soda

Giving a kid soda every once in a while is fine imo...but a two year old??? Why???????

the purpose is because they do not know how to tell their child 'no'. And they don't want to deal with crying/fussing/etc. I even cringe when I see babies with bottles full of full strength juice! Lillie has only had juice like 2 times. I'm not saying juice is bad...but really, they don't need it, its just sugar. Why not start you kids (I'm talking babies and toddlers) off right and give them water? They have their whole lives to enjoy soda, koolaid, juice, beer
