Question Low body temp in child? Concerned!

My 7 year old out of nowhere told me she had a belly ache...I assumed it was because she had not pooped in a couple of days. She has this problem from time to time. She told me it was her lower belly just above the pelvis. I gave her some Miralax as suggested to give her at times like these by the dr. Well, she would not drink the water and would not attempt to eat a thing. She said she thought she might throw up so I got her a pot to keep beside her in case that happened. I went back in to check on her a while later and she said that her belly ache was gone and she felt fine. She came out to the living room and started playing with her jump rope. I took her temp and it said 96.1. I thought that was a little out of the ordinary, but she was feeling okay so I was not worried. Then out of nowhere she took off running to the bathroom and puked everywhere! Not something a pregnant woman needs to witness let me tell you! DH was called in for clean up duty! Now she is feeling better but I am worried she will start to feel bad again and not know when it will occur! I grabbed her a couple blankets and a pillow and told her to lay down on the floor with the pot near her and gave her a glass of water. The thing that bothers me is the low temp. Why on earth would it be so low? It is never lower than the normal body temp.

96.1 really isn't all that low. It's very rare that people are actually the "98.6" body temp that everyone assumes. If she's not complaining of being cold, then I wouldn't worry about the temp too much. Just make sure she's drinking plenty of fluids and is staying hydrated. If she's still not feeling well in the morning, then I would give your ped a call.

I have heard that you should add 1 degree so its really 97.1 I am also someone with a degree lower and basically never had a temp when I was sick and the nurses at school always sent me back to class where I would then throw up on my way.

I was the same as Lina. I have a normally low temperature so according to everyone else's standards I hardly ever had a temperature!! My normal range was below 98.0, usually 97.5.
