Default Anybody had a mobile phone dropped in water and still work?

Hi everyone, just wondering if anybody has had this happen. My 20 month old got hold of my mobile phone today and dunked it into a glass of water!!! Now it is not working! I have taken it apart and trying to dry all the pieces out. I hope it will work again or maybe I will have to get a new phone????

Sam, confuscious say 18 month old with mobile will dunk it in water!!!
Thats a real pain. Take it apart and remove the SIM card and dry completely BUT NOT NEAR HEAT!!
A friend of mine accidently dropped hers in the toilet. It was in her pocket when she went and it dropped in the bowl (eewww) Apparently she dried the parts and it worked but not properly.
Looks like you may have to make a new investment!!! And keep it up high!!

Sam, I know my husband dropped his on the ground one night when it rained all night and he never knew it was out there! The phone still worked, however the picture didn't. So when someone was calling him, he couldn't see who was calling him because the whole display had quit working! But it still rang and called out! Needless to say, he did end up getting a new phone. I wouldn't be able to stand not knowing who was calling me! Good luck!

Thanks, I have taken all the bits apart and letting them dry out. Fingers crossed it will work again.

Very funny Angie!! Sorry to hear of your phones recent swim Sam! I think the average life of a cell phone with 3 children is less than a year!

Hopefully it dries out...if not, you may have to get a new one!

oh yeah try getting q tips and rubbing alcohol and dry it out. I've dropped phones in all kinds of liquids. It should be fine. as long as it wasnt in too long.

    Hi Sam,

Having worked in the mobile industry for a while, your best option is to put it in by your hotwater cylider overnight wrapped in papertowels... dont put rubbing alcohol or anything else anywhere near it, you could end up doing more damage than good...

have a look at it again in the morning and if you can see any erosion on it at all (this will usually look green or rust coloured, by the battery connection points, or on the circut board if you can see it) then your phone is poked and you should look at getting a new one...

Still - try turning it on again then, sometimes by pure fluke they work again, but not usually...

    good luck...

Thanks Karen, it is not looking good. It is a Nokia and there seems to be no life in it. It looks completely dry. Will my sim card still work in another phone or will I have to get a new one? I will have to try and ring Nokia.
