    Hi, Angeline.

Are you asking about food that is delivered home, or what to eat after delivering a baby?

    Hi, angeline.

I don't know that there is any particularly special food to eat after delivery. You should definately continue to eat healthy, which means eating whole natural foods and avoiding highly processed foods. Drink water. If you are going to breast feed, you need to be even more careful ensuring you eat get plenty of nutrition from your food. Also, you should continue to take vitamin supplements.

    Hai Angeline

Where I come from, the food depends on how you deliver.

If it was a normal delivery, then you are recommended to eat foods that are considered 'hot' like rice, anchovies, lots and lots of pepper, certain types of fish, thick chicken soup, lots of herbs, green veggies. Drink only warm water and hot herbal tea plain.
You are absolutely not to touch 'cold' food such as soya, beancurd, specific fruits like watermelon, stay away from sugar, milk, ice, cold water. Definitely no sweet desserts such as ice-cream, chocolates, no coffee.

If it was a ceasarean, add to the list to eat is a broth that's made from a special fish called 'haruan' (sorry can't remember the english name for it!) which is very very good for wounds healing. You can either make the broth yourself or buy it already bottled. Also be careful of foods like jackfruits that can cause wind, which is considered really bad for wound healing.

The above is only to be observed for 44 days. The idea really is to keep your body warm as it will help you regain your strength and energy back.

    HEY ANGELINE,

    GLAD TO KNOW U.

ANYWAYS, LIKE WAZIEN SAID, IT REALLY DEPENDS ON
HOW U PUT TO BED, IN MY PLACE..NIGERIA IN PORT HARCOURT
IF IT WAS A NORMAL DELIVERY THEN U WOULD BE
FED WITH LOTS OF FRESH FISH PEPPER SOUP OR DRY FISH PEPPER
SOUP AND POUNDED YAM, IT IS GENERALLY BELIEVED IN OUR AFRICAN CULTURE

THAT A WOMAN THAT JUST PUT TO BED IS SUPPOSED TO ADD SOME WEIGHT
THATS THE WAY THEY KNOW THAT UR HUBBY TOOK GOOD
CARE OF YOU AND U WOULD BE MADE TO DRINK LOTS OF OUR
AFRICAN BREW KNOWN AS PALM WINE IN ORDER TO MAKE THE
    BREAST MILK FLOW FREELY.

ANYWAY THIS METHOD APPLIES TO MY OWN PEOPLE, BUT THE LADY
IS AT LIBERTY TO REJECT ALL THESE.

thank you all.. that is the answer that i expect :)
elleth.. so the ppl at your placw will still take normal food? nothing diferent at all?

wazien.. i hear of "haruan" too. however, some people said it is good if can get rid of having haruan coz it might caused the wound turn little "ugly' ( after recover) . it is true that it will help your wound to recover faster . i think we are from the same country, u think so???

princess, we here with try to avoid fish. if eaten also very small portion. i wonder what is ur fish pepper soup taste like???? must be very nice ...

i am a chinese from malaysia. i just loss my 6 week bb, so my family called me to stay at home for a rest. howver , i am still going out shopping, dine out n doing some of office work. ( gee.. i am a bad girl) :P

my mum in law, prepared chicken with herb and a lots of ginger n wine. she said the herb will help to "clear" the bloood out. after having it for one week, then only switch to ginger & wine & chicken. they are more thing to eat after one week. she uses alots of chinese herb, pepper , ginger in the food. generally, ppl will put on weight after one month confinment period. we try to get rid of vegetable as much as posible, coz they said it is 'cold' food. however, i able eat some vege ( when giving birth to my daughter), my confinemnt lady fry it with some ginger. we only allow to drink hot water & wine.

the confinement period will be one month. older people will advice us to bath with specially boilded herb to avoid "wind" get in you body. the colour will be brown lol hehehe.. it is very different from your place , right??

Hi there...well it seems that the UK doesn't have such a thing as "eat this special food once you give birth"!!! I basically had toast and lots of water after I was all stitched up and then I threw it all up anyway!!

In the days after the birth I basically just ate normally...so fruit, vegies and meat just as I would have at home! (hospital food was not too bad actually!)

It is good to know what other cultures do though, it is really interesting!

I have not heard of anything special here for food either, but it is interesting hearing what everyone does eat. I have heard of people saving and eating the placenta. Has anyone else heard that?
