Default Hypnotherapy?

Has anyone ever done hypnotherapy as a means of pain relief in labour?

A friend of mine suggested it, and im sure you all know I am quite interested in alternative therapies so I thought I would have a look at it.

I'm currently bidding on a VBAC hypnotherapy cd on Ebay, this is what it says:

Self hypnosis CD programme to prepare for a Vaginal Birth After Caesarean.

  • Overcome any negative emotions connected with your previous caesarean
  • Increase your confidence to give birth vaginally
  • Be more relaxed, calm and confident
  • Reduce pain and intervention in childbirth
  • Feel in control
This is a 2 CD set:
  1. Helps your recognise and let go of any negative emotions connected with tour previous caesarean experience.
  2. Helps you to look forward and prepare for your next unique birth experience. By listening to the CD, you learn effective breathing, relaxation and pain management tequiniques, helping you to build your confidence and trust in your body's ability to give birth vaginally.
CD1 is ok for use throughout pregnancy and CD2 recommended from 32 weeks onwards.

Includes 20 page instruction and advise booklet.

Sounds good!! Only 30 minutes to go so hope I get it!!

OOH I went to a baby show whilst i was pregnant with Mya and there was a stand advertising Hypnotherapy, I spoke with them for ages and ages. It was so interesting, but so expensive to go to the course, and at that time Pete and I were saving every penny so that we could fund me to have a full year off with Mya.

It sounded great though.

I never even thought of doing it as self help course? It is deffinately worth a go, I think to get real benefit you would have to start doing it now and doing it religiously until you were in labour. So that it became second nature.

The benefits of it being on CD means that you could take it to the labour ward with you and listen to it whilst in labor too.

Good Luck with the auctions and let me know how you are getting on with it if you win it.

I know someone who used hypnotherapy with an actual therapist to give up smoking after various attempts herself via patches and other means!!

It worked first time!!!!

Hope it does for you

Well I won it at opening bid!!! On the official website of the cd that I got the disk is £28 and I got it for £2.50 including postage!!! Whooo hoo!

I guess its definitely worth a go. I'm not doing any birthing classes this time round and even first time round only went on a 1 afternoon refresher course cos my df at the time wouldnt take time off work.

I'll let you know what its like when i get it. This is the website for the one I have got.

I was just watching a hypnotherapist from england yesterday talking about using hypnotherapy to fix basically anything. Over spending, over eating, to change a negative into a positive. It was really neat!

I hope the cd works!

Hey Jackie! I really wanted to take a hypnobirthing class to use during labor, but unfortunately, there are none offered near me. So I went and bought a hypnobirthing book and CD. So far I've read the book twice and I try to listen to the CD a few times a week (you're supposed to listen to it everyday, but I just haven't had time). I'm really gonna step it up though here in the next few weeks since I'm getting closer to my due date. Hopefully it will work for me (or at least help me) considering I'm going to try to go au natural......

I'll keep you updated!!!

Good luck with that! I live in NZ and didnt want to order any of the hypnobirthing kind of programs from here coz it costs too much, but I tried to find out what they were all about and do my own 'home-made' version. I bought an MP3 player, loaded it with my favourite total relaxation songs, and I also made a whole bunch of affirmation cards for the pregnancy, labour, and afterwards, then everyday I would read them a few times a day. I would also listen to my relaxation music a lot and use it to completely relax and to meditate. And I would try to do visualisations of how I wanted everything to go, and how I wanted to feel in labour and holding the baby. I think it was a big help for my labour, because even though it was still painful, I was able to cope, and my body was so relaxed that I dilated quickly and only took a couple of pushes to get baby out. For next time though I think I will remember to include the recovery and NOT needing stitches, or having a fast easy recovery, and then it'll be all good! If anyone wants any ideas of what I did for affirmations etc, then let me know =)

Default Hypnotherapy?

It's part of hollistic medicine.I don't think there're any side effects except empty pockets...So it might worth a try. Being a believer of more traditional medicine,I would not believe in hypnotherapy nor in diet pills. Did you guys know that diet pills are never FDA approved so they have no scientific proof of being effective?Anyways, you might try if you can spare few hundred bucks on it...never hurt...maybe it'll work for you.

I had a hypnotherapy cd thing playing when I was in labor...at least I think I did. My midwife brought it.... It helps when you are in the begining stages...the "omg I can't do this" phases.
