the Depot shot or also known as DMPA? HOw did you like it? AF finally showed up this AM, and I really need to get some type of BC besides pills, I can't mentally continue using pull and pray, I'm afraid it won't work for us and I'm in no way ready to have another baby at the moment!

depo provera? i got the shot 2 times in 2004 one shot in febuary and another in may and i beld febuary till august i ended up in the hospital because i wouldnt stop bleeding i didnt take another shot i used the pill after that ill never do it again.

I used in when I was younger for a year. It was ok for me. Other than the shot in butt every 3 months I didn't have a period for the whole year but it was good!!!

I had thought about getting it when I was younger. But one of the side effects is major weight gain....and I couldn't bear to do it. Good luck deciding....

I had it for about 3 yrs in my early 20s. It was great, no weight gain, no bleeding.

I had it for about 18mths before I got pregnant with Lily (in my early 30s) had a little weight gain, no bleeding.

Had it when Lily was 6 weeks old.. I was still PP bleeding at this time and I think it prolonged my bleeding. So doc gave me another early. Bleeding stopped. I did spot a lot for a few months, so I dumped it.

There is a new one called subQ depo. That is meant to have less hormone.

I will get it again after this baby.

Thanks for the suggestion of the new injection, I didn't realize there was a new one, but I'm going to google it and check it out, sounds interesting!

Just thought I'd put out there that I got the depo shot in november, had one period, then got pregnant in december. Ever since then, I've heard many stories of people getting pregnant while on it. BUT, it can happen with any birth control, I suppose- seems to have worked for the other ladies here! The only thing that concerned me when I got it was it says it can take up to a year after you stop the shots to get pregnant.
