Ingredients
At a glance

Makes
2 1/2 dozen
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
1 tsp. backing soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. powdered ginger
2 cups flour

Methods/steps

1.  Cream shortening and sugar.

2.  Add egg and molasses, mix well.

3.  Add in the rest of the ingredients.

4.  Roll into approx. 1 inch balls.  Roll in sugar.

5.  Bake at 350 for 12 1/2 minutes, if not quite done leave for another 1/2 minute.

6.  Leave on the cookie sheet to cool for a few mins.  Put a slice of bread in the jar to keep soft.
